Engagement Session Outfit Tips + Inspiration

One of my most asked questions I get from my couples is: “what should we wear for our engagement session?”
When I was planning my own wedding, I definitely struggled with picking our outfits for the engagement session. It seems like an insignificant detail, but it’s actually pretty important! Your engagement photos are a reflection of you, and your unique love story, and your outfits play a role in that. So, to all of my brides/brides-to-be, this blog post is for you! I am sharing my favorite shops, outfit tips, and ideas to hopefully make planning a bit easier. When you book with me, I actually have an entire engagement session guide that has even more details regarding outfits, but I thought these tips may be useful for anyone planning an engagement session 🙂
My #1 tip for every session is to wear something you are comfortable in! If you aren’t comfortable or feel like your outfit just isn’t “you,” it will show in your photos and you may look stiff. Plus, who wants to be walking around taking photos in something that is just not comfy?! I know I don’t! Engagement sessions are supposed to be fun and relaxing.
In no particular order, here are a few more tips and tricks:
-Long dresses photograph beautifully and it is easy to use a long, flowy dress to add movement to your photos.
-I am a big fan of neutral colors, because bright colors can be distracting and take away from your natural beauty. Navy, dusty blue, soft greens, blush, khaki and gray are all great choices for color palettes.
-Instead of trying to match colors perfectly, pick a color family and wear colors that complement each other instead of picking the exact same tone. Your outfits will look cohesive when the colors coordinate, but do not match.
-For the guys, jeans, khaki/navy/gray dress pants with a dress shirt or button up are always good options, and very easy to coordinate with.
